Summer is here which means fresh seasonal produce will be in abundance. Fresh berries, watermelon, peaches, and much more! If you are unsure what should be in your pantry, refrigerator, or freezer let this be your guide for summer pantry essentials.

Summer Pantry

Seasonal produce

Summer fruits include: tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, cherries, blackberries, strawberries, melons, passionfruit, lemons, and limes.

Summer vegetables include: cucumbers, beets, corn, rhubarb, bell peppers, radishes, zucchini, summer squash, carrots, and arugula.

With various fruits and veggies in season during the summer it’s a great idea to purchase a little more than necessary and freeze the overages. I use the frozen berries saved from summer for my morning smoothies and sometimes for desserts. Another great usage is canning and pickling. Don’t forget you can slice your veggies and freeze those as well.

Quality meat

A summer is not a summer without a great bbq experience. Most grocery stores offer great sales on meat during the summer, especially around the summer holidays. Take this time to stock up on quality sausages, cuts of chicken, beef, and pork loins. These can also be frozen for a later date. Buying on sale will guarantee you will always have something to put on the grill all summer long.

Herbs and spices

Fresh herbs are great to always have on hand. Be sure to fill your stock with rosemary, basil, dill, thyme, cilantro, and parsley. They are great for marinades, salads, or making a signature cocktail. If you don’t want to put in the extra work to clean and store fresh herbs, dried ones are also great to purchase. Be sure to keep up with the expiration date and store them properly.

Every season is a great season to stock up on your favorite libations. Each season produces limited edition flavors for certain products, so be sure to stock up on your favorites. Summer is also the perfect time for seasonal sangrias, margaritas, and beer. Wine is always a favorite of mine to keep on hand for an easy cocktail during the summer.
