Dinner Conversation With Lady C

Don't you just love cake? I know I do. Especially when they are simply gorgeous. You know the cakes that are made into crowns, characters, and more? Well I had the chance to catch up with "Lady C." She is an extraordinary baker who is self taught. For this week's Dinner Conversation we are going to learn a lot more about her.
Can you tell me a little about yourself?
My name is Chardai Kerby and I am in my late 20s, married and no kids (yet). I am the youngest of 8 sisters (no boys lol) from Chicago and I love my city!
How did you first get involved with baking?
I actually would bake for my sisters just because. Then, one day in the summer of 2012 it took off.
What do you find most challenging about what you do?
Time. I still work my full time job and with being a newlywed it is a balancing act for now.
How did you teach yourself to bake?
Well….i just tried. I made a lot of attempts of course and didn’t go to school for this. I literally am self taught. I watched many shows on the food channels such as: Cupcake Wars and other shows and it motivated me to see if I could do it!
What type of networking do you do that you feel helps your business?
I expo at a lot of events. From there I connect with others and use my social media outlets to connect as well.
If someone was interested in breaking into the food industry, what would be a few things you would suggest?
I would suggest becoming licensed first. There are things like sanitary licenses and renting out a kitchen so that your home isn't a mess from all of the baking.
What do you find most enjoyable about what you do?
Its calming for me and it is a great stress reliever. Its not a job for me because it is my true passion.
If a kid walked up to you asking you for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give them your “best tip” what would it be?
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can't succeed in what you want to do! You will have nay sayers but rise above them and prove to them that you can perfect your craft!
What other services do you offer and what other projects are you working on?
I offer custom cakes, cocktail (alcohol infused) cupcakes, chocolate covered treats; pretzels, marshmallows, oreos, and strawberries. Taffy grapes, made from scratch banana and strawberry puddings, chocolate covered strawberries with nuts, jello shot strawberries, cake pops and more!
Where can people find you so that they can stay connected with you?
They can find me on Instagram @ladycssweets
Facebook @ lady c’s inspired creations by chardai
And my new website which will launch in November ladycscreations.com
