4 Ways to Practice Self Care

Self-care and self-love go hand in hand. It’s easy to get wrapped up in day to day life and forget about the needs of self. You have to take care of yourself first. It is impossible to pour from an empty cup.

Self-care can be defined as “any activity that you do voluntarily which helps you maintain your physical, mental or emotional health. It can help you feel healthy, relaxed and ready to take on your work and responsibilities.”

There once was a time I would not go a week without recharging. Life happened and soon one week turned into almost six months. It was a decision that I immediately regretted. I was at a tipping point where I physically wasn’t able to do certain activities like before. It seemed like every aspect of my life from work to wellness was affected. I couldn’t allow myself to fall down the rabbit hole any longer. My first task was scheduling a massage and having a smoothie day.

It can be difficult to schedule some “me” time, but it is absolutely necessary. You have to take care of yourself. Here are four simple ways to incorporate a self-care routine into your lifestyle.

#1. Take Care of Your Body

Be sure to take care of your body. You can get a massage, have a spa day, or soak in a hot herbal bath. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and maintain a regular exercise routine. Get some rest and be sure to give your body some love!

#2. Take a Personal Day

When you are able, take the day off. Do those things that you have wanted to do. This can be a day to do nothing and just relax with a good book or watch Netflix.

#3. Learn to Say "No!"

There is power in saying NO. You deserve to have time to yourself in order to invest in your well-being.  Constantly agreeing to everything can cause unwanted stress that can lead to sickness. Remember you cannot pour from an empty cup. Self-care isn’t selfish. The Power of a Positive No is a great book that will teach you how to say no without sacrificing your relationships.

#4. Remove Negativity

Constantly having negativity in your space drains your energy. The people you spend time with influence everything from thoughts to success. You become who you spend time with. In order to truly be in a state of peace you have to let the negativity go. Beautiful things begin to happen when you distance yourself from negativity of all kind.

Be kind to yourself!
