Cookies just make everyone happy but not when we have our cookies confused. Let’s clear up the cookie confusion so that we all know what we are snacking on. Macarons and Macaroons are two very different sweet treats. They both begin with egg whites and sugar and end quite differently, so let’s explore them.

This cookie is an American cookie made by grandmothers everywhere. It is a flourless cookie so it is a treat that is eaten during Passover. It is made of mostly coconut. The coconut is folded into the merengue then baked until browned; crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle. It is often times paired with optional chocolate dipping sauce, giving you a little bit of heavenly goodness to enjoy.

A macaron is a french cookie that has the base of a meringue. It’s very simple due to the fact that the cookie is made of egg whites, confectioners sugar, granulated sugar, almond meal, and food color. It is delightful and dainty. The food color is what allows it to come in all of those gorgeous colors that you see everywhere. The filling is also an awesome highlight because it can be filled with ganache, jam, or your favorite frostings. It’s like a perfect little sweet sandwich.

These are both wonderful confections to enjoy so just make sure that you are ordering the right one and you will be happy as a clam!
